England’s top Junior surfers will return to tackle the waves of Fistral Beach, Newquay this September in the Billabong VW British Junior Championships 2009. This year, the event looks to be the best ever!
To celebrate Billabong’s new surf movie “Still Filthy”, Billabong will be attending the event with the Billabong Monster Still Filthy Bus Tour, bringing a sneak preview of the film “Still Filthy”, pro-riders signing session, beach games, goodies and a BBQ.
VW will be showcasing some of their best selling vans, a favorite with surfers for many years. Look for strong showings from the British team members Josh Piper and Toby Donachie in the under 18s and a crop of hot talent in the under 16s. All competitors will be looking to do well at this year British Championships to gain selection to the World ISA Junior contest being held in New Zealand in January 2010.
Last year saw the largest ever entry with over 160 surfers traveling from all over the country to compete for this major title and, with the continual growth of British and competitive surfing. British Surfing Association (BSA) and sponsors Billabong, VW, and Calypso are putting all the final arrangements in place and preparing themselves for what is expected to be the biggest ever entry.
The event includes 6 divisions including Under 12s, Under 14s, Under 16, Under 18, Under 14 girls and Under 18 girls. Sam Carrier, Men’s Marketing Manager at Billabong Europe, commented: “This years British Juniors looks set to be the best ever, with the Billabong Monster Still Filthy bus in attendance, over 300 people will be able to experience the thrill of surfing, at the same time as watching the best juniors in the UK battling for the chance to be crowned British Champion”.
