Valuable world title ratings points are on the line and several surfers are looking to survive the mid-year ratings rotation. And while last year didn’t produce awe-inspiring conditions for the main event, a flurry of swell activity in the South Pacific could see the 2011 Billabong Pro Tahiti open the event window in sizable surf.
It’s a possibility that the world’s best must prepare for each season – will they be tested like never before? With the gallery screaming, cheering and jeering from the channel, do they push their sensibilities aside and push themselves over the ledge? Or play it safe?
In this, the first in a series of three webisodes to be released leading into the event, a selection of the sport’s biggest names share their thoughts on Teahupo’o and the idyllic attractions that make Tahiti so unique.
