Like all west coast beaches, can be dangerous with grunty swells. Nice beach though and a bit less of a drive from auckland than Piha, Anawhata etc. Head from Swanson to Bathells Beach. From car park just a short walk along the stream. Various lefts and rights. O'Neills can build a good right on low tide sometimes. Quite spooky in twilight.
