Pataua is a awesome little beach town at the end of the road. Got two parts: South and North and is connected by footbridge. Best to go north: Drive from Whangarei to Horahora and then continue on to Pataua Rd. The spot is a classic right-hand river bar break. Banks constantly shifting from flow or flodding. Not often on, but if it's on expect sucky take offs with long hollow walls, breaking over shallow sand. One of my favourites.... The beach next door and surfschool are wicked too...(sometimes)
