Piha is one of the best known spots in NZ. Though the reason for this is because it's so easily accessible from Auckland. It's probably the best spot to go to if your are short on time, coz you can park straight next to the beach and jump into the water. Anyway, if it's on all auckland knows that and it can be super crowded, especially on the weekends. Locals can be dicks, and the crowds of tourists are not so nice to look at. Go to Anawhata, Whites Beach or Kerekere if you want to avoid the crowds and find some peace. Piha has two beaches that are devided by Lion Rock. The southern beach has often good rights. While north Piha usually has multiple bards with plenty of lefts and rights.
